The abundance of the wild – foraging
We are so fortunate to be surrounded by a diverse ecosystem providing us with wild foods that we can enjoy in our meals. Every season offer different flavors, colors and benefits. Foraging, the process of searching for, identifying and harvesting in our surrounding wild nature is an important part of our daily routines at Hagabrekka. Something that not only provides us with healthy, yummy meals, but also gives us the joy of wondering around in nature, taking in the peace and tranquility while expanding our perception and understanding of our world.

It is pretty amazing how we can go out and pick our salad from the wild every day in the summertime. To be honest, we could probably do way more then what we are doing, but I am still learning, little by little. Trying to gain more knowledge every day and embrace new understandings on how we can work with, as well as benefitting from the abundance of the surrounding nature. It would be an understatement saying that foraging is my new favorite hobby, because it truly is way more than that. It is a complete eye opener for me, a catalyst for understanding not only the world we live in more, but even developing my yoga practice. The understanding of the creation of the self in relation to the natural world and how everything is so intricately connected is becoming more and more obvious when I am actually learning to know the world I am living in. It is also becoming increasingly clear how completely fucked up the way of human society has become. How we are separating ourselves more and more from nature, like it is something different then what we are, not to mention that we no longer even eat natural foods even though for many of us it is right outside our doorstep.
So, I truly recommend you to take a little look into the beautiful world of edible herbs in your area, as it differs depending on where in the world you are, its important that you familiarize yourself with what is edible and what is poisonous in the part of the world you are living. I promise you that the experience of harvesting wild herbs for your meal is not only going to give you a free powerhouse of nutrients, but it will offer you another connection to the nature around you. A plant that is eaten all around the world though, which is very hard to mistake for something else is nettle. The superfood of the wild, it can be used for soooo many things, not only amazing soup, pestos, infusions, fried with garlic and many other delicious meals, but it can be made into amazing fertilizer for your garden, the fibers can be used, and the list goes on forever. It might not be the most pleasant wild herb to forage though, so you might include another wild herb in your walk today to feel that connection to the nature. Remember to share your gratitude with mother earth when you are out there.
Thank you, Mother Nature, for your generosity and beauty, let’s all try to take care for her and value everything that she provides.
